Happy St. Patrick's day! Over the next couple of weeks, I'll be sending you daily prompts and encouragement to get outside for a couple of minutes. These are, of course, completely voluntary. But I hope you and your family will discover that time spent outside can be such a blessing, even if it's just in your yard.
For today, I'd like you to go outside, your yard is fine, and find a place to sit for a few minutes. Close your eyes and listen. Do you hear birds? Listen for a while. Can you pick out different songs? Can you see any of the birds singing?
This morning I heard mockingbirds, mourning doves, and red-bellied woodpeckers in the two trees in my front yard. You can find recordings of their songs linked below.

If you are curious about a bird you heard and saw, try identifying it with the Merlin app from Cornell university, or e-mail me a description, and we'll figure it out together!
